Meet the Coaches
Professor Brian Bowers
Brian Bowers is the Lead Instructor for the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association 111 Project and Professor for St. Croix Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. As a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, he has coached at multiple academies and led seminars throughout the nation.
Brian is a retired federal law enforcement officer, formerly serving as a physical tactics, search and seizure, and firearms instructor for his agency, as well as the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. Brian has trained law enforcement officers throughout the United States and internationally. Having served as an instructor for more than two decades, he leads train-the-trainer sessions that strengthen instructors’ presentation skills and lesson-plan development.
Having personally relied on jiu-jitsu techniques to protect his life, Brian advocates jiu-jitsu as essential knowledge for all law enforcement personnel. His dedication to this cause is evident in his involvement with the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association 111 Project, a nonprofit organization that protects law enforcement personnel through support, education, training, and information sharing.
Brian leads jiu-jitsu seminars for law enforcement and jiu-jitsu practitioners, but his commitment to his students goes beyond the mat. He leverages his education and experience to educate jiu-jitsu practitioners and law enforcement officers by sharing technical skills and cutting-edge research from psychology, neuroscience, social science, and health science to enhance their skills and safety, and deepen their understanding of the benefits of jiu-jitsu training.
Having now retired as a law enforcement officer, Brian applies his use-of-force expertise to civilian self-defense. He is a graduate of the Law of Self Defense Instructor Program, which teaches civilians how to defend themselves in a legally justifiable manner. This unique credential allows him not only to teach physical self-defense techniques, but also to measure those techniques and applications against the law, resulting in a comprehensive self-defense training experience.
In addition to being a firearms and physical tactics instructor, Brian is a Certified Strength Coach with the National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF) and a member of the United States Registry of Exercise Professionals (USREPS).
